In the 15th century, a raven carrying a signet ring from the recently widowed Queen Mother arrived at the window of young Prince Mátyás. Called to claim his kingdom, the "Raven King" Mátyás reigned over his people from that day.
Historically based and mythologically embellished, the "Raven King" has lived on in the hearts of the Hungarian people as a just philosopher-king and friend of the muses who ushered in the first Golden Age of Hungary.
Inspired by the folkloric tales that have risen in the centuries since King Mátyás' reign, Madár (Hungarian for "bird") takes its inspiration from the mythology deep at the heart of Hungary's national cultural identity.
Working closely in collaboration with Matyó craftsmen, the Hungarian people who legend holds are descendents from the lineage of King Mátyás' royal guards, Madár hotel seeks to bring the rural treasures of Hungarian hand-crafts to an urban avant-garde setting.
